Dear Grandfather, You were taken from your parents @ age 5 and never saw them again. You spent 7 years incarcerated at the Cherokee School in Cherokee NC. Your crime: Being Indian. You were abused & ran away when you were 12. You joined the U.S. Army @ 15 and served 40 years as an accountant. You hid on the outskirts of society and lied about who you really were. You were terrified all the time. You drank to numb the pain and died on a park bench in Portland Oregon of Alcoholism at the age of 73. I am truely sorry for any part I played in this tragedy. I love you and miss you still. Please anyone who's family or loved ones have been impacted in anyway by the "Indian Schools" please click this link & sign this petition. Saying sorry heals so much. Thank You!
